Musée de Venoge, Inc. is an Indiana not-for-profit corporation and designated 501(c)(3) under the Internal Revenue Code whose purposes include: creating and maintaining a center for research, education and historic preservation — a museum, historic park and nature preserve for the general public of Switzerland County, Indiana and the surrounding region. The facility is based on the approximately 30 purchased acres of the original French-Swiss farmstead (c.1805) and its existing cottage on State Route 129 and Indian Creek in Switzerland County.

The plan is to thoroughly research the pioneer farmstead, its history, rare type of vernacular architecture, built and natural environments, and the inhabitants’ lives and culture — then to educate the public as to the heritage revealed and the means to preserve it. It should become a model for historic preservation in this area.

To accomplish this, the historic cottage structure will be preserved on its original site and accurately restored to its early 19th century condition along with its buildings, farm land and vineyards — as feasible. Restoration and scenic protection of the natural woodlands, streams and wetlands would complete the setting. Symposia, living history events, fairs and military re-enactments appropriate to the early period of the site are anticipated activities designed to fulfill its purpose.
